The Gorno Ezerovo monastery “St Virgin Mary” is situated between the quarter of Meden Rudnik of the city of Bourgas and the village of Gorno Ezerovo. The monastery is built in the lowland, but represents a true oasis of beauty in the plain field.
It is believed that the “St Virgin Mary” monastery first appeared in the 12th c. in proximity to a former Thracian sanctuary. An inn close to the monastery used to shelter travelers, while mentally ill people were treated in a special compartment. The present-day monastery dates back to 1982. The monastery is built over seven springs with curative water, which have attracted to sick people ever since Thracian times. The curative springs are situated over no more than 100 square metres, but nevertheless have entirely different chemical content and curative powers. At present, the “St Virgin Mary” monastery consists of 2 churches, 40 chapels and several residential buildings, while the entire complex is looked after solely by Mother Serafima. Since recently, the Pomorie monastery has sent one of its monks to give a helping hand to the nun. The numerous chapels dedicated to Christian saints are exceptionally imposing with their beauty and diversity. We have been told that the chapels have gradually been built by Mother Serafima herself, who started this deed as soon as she arrived at the monastery about 25 years ago.
Neither food nor accommodation is offered.
The road to the monastery passes through the Meden Rudnik quarter of the city of Bourgas, From there, one needs to take a signed road to the right that leads straight to the monastery.
